Hey everyone!
I just wanted to let you know that I recently read an article discussing what the new wave of therapies is going to look like for symptomatic GERD.
Evidently instead of targeting the proton pump after it has been activated by the different neurotransmitters, it's going to regulate the potassium ion before activation. The claim (currently in Phase III trials) is that the next wave of medications should be available faster (within 20 minutes, in some of the early data) and achieve higher efficacy that Prilosec (the former gold standard for efficacy - some of the research has had to be re-done because of Nexium).
The compounds are due for a New-Drug Application to the FDA by the 3rd Quarter of 2006 or 1st Quarter of 2007.
Just some info ... Enjoy!
