Hi.
I have had problems with hearthburn all my life, and it's probably related to my hiatal hernia. about two month ago I decided to try to get of the ppis I've been on for 5 years. The first weeks everything seemed to go great but then I started to get problems. I realised I wouldn't be able to make it, and I've been back on 40mg omeprazole a day, which has given me full relief in the past. All the symptoms are now gone again except one. I have a sore throat and my voice is really weak and breaks. about a week ago I lost my voice, and it feels like it's still recovering from that. I also have alot of mucus in my throat. This worries me because in the past my symptoms has only been hearthburn related and I have never had any LPR symptoms. No I'm really regretting quitting the ppis. In addition to the ppis i also take anti histamines, L-glutamine, Slippery elm, Magnesium, L-cystein, Probiotics, Iberogast and Digestive enzymes.
Since I've never experienced LPR before, could the digestive enzymes be refluxing up the throat and couse it? Will the sore throat disappear now when I'm back on the ppis and if so how long will it take? Do you have any tips on how I can give the throat some relief?
