Intense Heartburn and Coughing

Hi all,

I've had GERD symptoms for about four months now, and I've smoked for the last six months but quit last week and haven't had any cravings for cigarettes. For the past week and a half I've had a sore throat, stuffy nose, and persistent cough, and for a few days now I've been experiencing crazy heartburn whenever I swallow. I just started a fourteen day trial of omeprazole. Can anyone relate to the coughing? I also have anxiety so of course I think I have lung cancer, but I realize that smoking lighly for a few months isn't likely to cause cancer. Any help is appreciated.

Ps you could also just have an upper respiratory infection and heartburn could be coincidental. ;-) fingers crossed.
