NERD, Functional Heartburn, while on PPI's

Hello Everyone!
So I've been on Nexium 40mg twice a day for about 2 years. I still get pain in my chest almost every day. Has anyone else experienced chest pains while on PPI's? Was your esophagus being damaged? Or did you have NERD? I'm curious about your experiences.

My chest hurts just about every day. Drinking fluids doesnt seem to affect my pain. I havent found much if a correlation between pain and diet. Basically, Im almost always in pain..

My chest pain is pretty dull/sore. Its not the "burning and acidic" pain that I used to have without PPIs. My chest feels sore and tight. I have been keeping a log on my heartburn and I am in pain 75% of the day, every day. Sometimes eating eliminates my pain temporarily. Sometimes if I eat dry food and dont chew well, my food will go down slowly and I will have to wash the food down with water.

Hi Stephen,

It sounds as though you are having NERD. I started with a sore throat burning mouth, chest pain, felt like an elephant sat on my chest, this eventually led to normal reflux and now a failed LES.

I would suggest getting a manometry and PH test done, as this will show of you are having weak acid or alkaline reflux or a mixture of both. It will also show your LES resting pressure.

My advice would be to use Gaviscon Advance at this stage and do a lot of salt gargles.
