Fuzzy feeling in mouth after Nissen

Good morning. This forum has been so helpful to me in my journey fro GERD sufferer to just having had a nissen wrap done 4 weeks ago. I am doing well with eating and small meals and all that. I have a constant feeling of fuzziness on my teeth. I also have a little bump on my lip from my tooth hitting it and my mouth being too dry. That I think will pass. Has anyone had the fuzzy feeling of something coating their teeth ? It's not like acid rushing into my mouth as before the operation and my surgeon said the wrap was good and tight. I am hoping that this too will pass as I continue to heal . Just wondering if anyone else had this? Thanks for any input.MGM

Not that I recall, but I've been through a lot. Could be something as simple as oral hygiene?

I think my oral hygiene is pretty good, I brush my teeth at least 3 times a day. It feels sort of acidy too which is upsetting cause I was getting the operation to get rid of. I am hoping it stops.

I was afraid of that. Just wishful thinking on my part. Anything trigger it?

I don 't know. When I wake up my mouth is very dry. The feeling is also a burning tongue. It seems to get worse as the day goes on. When I wake up I don't have it, but within an hour my tongue begins to burn. Ever heard of that symptom?

I've had so many symptoms post-surgery, I can't even remember them. The only issue with my tongue was a possible case of thrush.

I'm glad your eating is good. You're entering peak swelling time in the wrap area. You might feel what feels like reflux, but it really isn't because the esophagus is a "dumb organ" and treats many things the same way. Example, I told my first GI doc that food was getting stuck in my throat parallel to your clavicle. He said it's actually probably in the wrap. Food can pile on and such. My point is, it could feel like acid, but it really may not be.

My mom is a dental hygienist. I'll see if she's heard of this. It's probably not a dental issue as we covered, but can't hurt.

Have you had B vitamin level and iron level checked?
Do you use mouthwash-- suggest a change?
Used whitening product?
Have you read the information on "burning mouth syndrome "-- this includes the tongue.

Check your symptoms with your surgeon. You are very early in your recovery period and so many things can pop up-- anesthesia can cause dry mouth too and as you increase your dietary intake your nutrition will improve. Be sure to chew your foods really well to liquid texture.

Thank you also much for checking in with me. I have to go back to work tomorrow after taking a month off. Since I am just 4 weeks out from surgery I am going to really hope that my acid and burning tongue are because of food on this side of the wrap instead of from my stomach. It's really hard to live with as many of you know. I'll keep plugging away and drinking a lot of water and hope it helps . My teeth feel fuzzy right after I brush my teeth and have what feels like acid and burning of my tongue. It's pretty awful.MGM

Just called my surgeon and he thinks I have thrush in my mouth. So I 'm swishing and swallowing, to drink lots of fluids and hopefully that will help. Will keep forum posted!MGM
