Excessive Belching , 100+ times a day

Welcome to Healing Well! While I have never had that problem, I've heard about it plenty of times on this forum. I expect that someone will be by soon to share their experience and information with you. It's a busy time of year, so don't feel badly if you don't hear form someone right away. Just keep posting on this thread to pop it higher in the list, and I'm sure one of our great members will respond!

Hi Phil

I also had the excessive belching. Almost like the burps were in slow motion. It drove me nuts! I would wake up in the morning and start burping before I even had anything to drink or eat. I would try to force the burps up quicker, but it never seemed to work.

I found my problem was a side effect from taking a PPI medication. The PPI caused me to develop delayed gastric emptying, where food is staying in your stomach too long, since there was not enough acid to break down my food anymore. So what little acid remained in my stomach and the food that remained was being pushed up into the esophagus. It does not take much acid to burn the throat, since the lining of the throat is different than the lining of the esophagus. So what they say about low stomach acid causing GERD is true!

Gerd and excessive burping is a symptom of delayed gastric emptying and in worse cases vomiting. Symptoms can very depending on the individual.

I have included some of the symptoms of delayed gastric emptying below:


◾Nausea
◾Vomiting
◾Abdominal distension
◾Bloating (feeling of fullness even after a small meal or few bites of food)
◾Early satiety
◾Heartburn (gastroesophageal reflux, acid reflux)
◾Excessive belching
◾Lack of appetite
◾Unintentional weight loss
◾Gastric pain – upper middle abdominal pain, left upper abdominal pain
◾Fluctuation in blood glucose levels – high and low blood sugar
◾Stomach cramps
◾Signs of vitamin deficiencies as a result of malabsorption
◾Offensive odor of the breath (halitosis) and burps (sulfur burps) as a result of bacterial overgrowth
◾Altered bowel movements may be noticed, particularly constipation
◾Dehydration, especially if there is constant vomiting

i have the same problem. no solution yet but ive only been tested for h pylori so far. i was actually thinking about making this same thread.
