I've had a read through and can't find a situation similar to mine, I guess I'm not really looking for advice as such, although it is more than welcome. I think I'm on the hunt for reassurance!
So, the back story, first things first I don't have GERD, but the illness I do have is rare, and its even rarer to find people having the nissen fundoplication for it, and unheard of to find people having a redo!!
I had a Nissen 5 years ago now when I was 17, it stopped the symptoms of my illness successfully for a few months until I was violently sick and then it all started again (I always assumed my wrap broke) until this year I just lived with it but unfortunately its became more of a 'life or death' type situation now and I'm currently being fed by a tube.
I'm scheduled for my redo on the 30th January, and I am PETRIFIED
, I have never been scared about
surgeries before but having experienced a lot of hospital errors in the past year I am dreading to think what could happen from anaesthetic to the actual surgery. My surgeon doesn't really want to do the surgery because he thinks its too risky, he says there is a risk of becoming a 'gastric cripple' (his words), and developing dumping syndrome amongst other problems, he says its a very high risk because there is a lot of scar tissue so it will be hard for him to see the vagus nerve. Needless to say he didn't sound confident, and its not filled me with much confidence but its my only choice unless I wan't to be tube fed for the rest of my life.
Is it really as bad as he was making out?
