Hi there...and welcome to the forum!

Bloating will last for a few months, unfortunately. It is worse in the beginning because of the swelling around the site of the wrap. But as that tapers down, and she gets used to eating slower, the wrap site will relax and the trapped gas will escape in the form of small burps. She may never get to the point of where she can let out a hearty belch, but eventually small burps will escape. She will need to be wary of the food she eats to ensure that she isn't eating overy gassy food/drinks. Carbonated beverages should be off limits for the few months following surgery as the bubbles will make her very uncomfortable.

I did not have bile reflux. While the Nissen will not help the gastritis directly, it will contribute to it's healing as your daughter will be pumped full of broad-spectrum antibiotics during surgery. Additionally, as she rests her stomach and is on a liquid diet during her recovery, the gastritis will heal on it's own.

Unfortunately, everyone is different. I did not have bile reflux, but had h-pylori, hiatal hernia, and gastritis. The bloating could be fairly significant, post-surgery. I was fortunate to have my surgery done via robotics, which I believe helped me significantly. Some people continue to experience the gas/bloating issues well into their recovery. She may even have bouts of nausea, I keep a prescription of Zofran to help. It's important to follow your surgeon's instructions regarding diet, ask questions, and be well informed before the surgery. Personally, my surgeon told me that I will not be able to belch/vomit for the rest of my life. This surgery was a huge decision for me, and I went into it knowing that I may have struggles swallowing and eating post-surgery. Nothing your daughter couldn't handle if she knows what to expect.

Hi,

My daughter had the Nissen 360 on Wednesday and stayed overnight. She actually did better than we expected, but she is only 30 years old, so I think that helped. She is doing so much better now, spasms are much fewer. She is eating things like mashed potatoes with gravy, canned carrots, drinking Ensure, tea and apple juice. She has not had bloating too much. She can burp a little. I think she is actually doing pretty well. This should help her bile reflux very, very much since really nothing else can. The damage caused by bile reflux is troubling and this was the best option. I think it has been good.

The surgeon has done about 500 of the surgeries so I think that was a definite plus.
