SUNSHINE,
Oh, you poor baby! I can't even imagine the level of frustration you are in. I pray that you will have some kind of resolution!
It took years for me to finally be diagnosed with 'Jackhammer Esophagus', and hypertensive LES. Fortunately for me, I found a caring and knowledgeable gastroenterologist and she has put me on medications that have given me so much relief.
I'm praying for you, SUNSHINE!

If you're in Salt Lake City you might consider Dr. Brian Gill in Orem/Provo. I don't know if he'll do
open fundo but he does it laparoscopically (spelling?) with the DaVinci robotic machine (which I like, you can google it). He has excellent bedside manner, really honest.

Linda sue,
I had a huge chewing out from the surgeon today, gi doctor passed off because
I went some where else.
He is so tired of fixing other surgeons problems. I made a huge
Mistake awaiting another manometry study to see if the nissan is working.
They want to see how much acid I have I have esophagus stage 2 gastritis,
I have appointment with internal doctor asking for pain management.
I hit massive roadblock and I'm stuck with what I get.
I'm going away for awhile to regroup and try to make the best of my bull suit
That I created and try to figure out how to live
Thank you I hope you are doing ok I've enjoyed meeting everyone. I'm going to
Have my melt down wait to see my internal doctor.

I have had GERD since 2003 and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia in 2011. I as told by my doc to elevate the head of my bed by 6 inches. I found a bedframe that fits inside your bedframe and it works great! It is a Beds Up frame: Beds Up, Bed Elevating Inclined Frame Insert, Queen.

Revision #5. He did another swallow and camera in the throat. He found my
Stomach in my chest nissan looks good hAving hard time still eating solids.
I hope 2 have this over within 2 weeks if not sooner.
Surgeon 2 and his nurse also appoliged for surgeon 3 behavior he was not supposed to do it he was out of line.
The new surgeon said it was like this since the last surgery in June. It's just
The way it happened. Listen to your body you know better than anybody I'm
Getting better only 9 months and surgeon number 2 to say I'm not a candidate.
Please don't let anyone tell you it's your fault the procedure just doesn't work.

Hi Sunshine,
I can't believe all that you have been through! I'm sending my prayers that the future will be brighter and more comfortable for you; you certainly deserve that.
I am doing good as I FINALLY got a firm diagnosis of the awful chest pain I had after my surgery. It's called 'Jackhammer' esophagus. I have a wonderful gastro doctor who has put me on meds to control the chest pain, and another to help heal the nerve pathways of my esophagus. I can function almost normally as long as I take my meds 4x daily. It looks like I will be on medication for the forseeable future. Fortunately, they are NOT expensive.
I have my phone set with 'alert
s' when I need to take pills. This condition is rare and doctors can only treat it with medications currently (calcium channel blocker and tricyclic anti-depressants). Primary causes include 'stress' and 'acid reflux'. Both of which I've had for many years. It's possible that my condition will improve, over time, now that I no longer have acid reflux.
The pain became worse when my LES was fixed during the surgery, so now it is normal, but the nerve pathways were disrupted with surgery, hence magnified PAIN. My surgeon did it right and told me that any kind of additional surgical repair to the LES would cause me to have uncontrolled acid reflux! I don't EVER want THAT again!
I wish you well, SUNSHINE, and thanks for thinking of me!

Hi, I've been lurking in health forums for almost 2 years now hoping I could find a cure for my reflux. Tonight I finally decided to join, my acid reflux is getting from bad to worse; it's becoming painful to swallow. This all started in March 2014 when I woke up in the middle of the night with tears in my eyes, coughing, and a burning sensation in my throat. I had heard of Gerd before while researching GMO foods but didn't understand, I thought it was the same thing as heartburn but it's way worse. My experience with reflux has been very unpleasant, it only happens when I sleep. If I lay in bed awake.......nothing, I will admit feel a bit of pressure where my LES is located but no tingling in my throat. However, if I fall asleep, I will be extremely hoarse in morning with excessive phlegm in my throat and a feeling as if I have Barrett's esophagus. It's as if my LES
opens when I am sleeping!!!!!
I have taken OTC Prilosec, Lansoprazole from doc, natural med's from herbal store but they were no help. I do not have health insurance to get surgery, I can't even afford a laproscopy. A week after my Acid reflux started, I tried a natural regimen.....etc ( chew food slowly, no eating after 7pm, small meals.) It is only thing that worked until I went back to my old eating habits and the reflux came back. Since then I went back to the natural regimen but it seems like it's too late because it's not working. So I bought a wedge but I tend to slide down it.
I NEED HELP!!!! When first developed reflux I would have sore throat throughout the whole day, eventually it became numb, but now it's starting to hurt when I swallow. I would like some advice on a natural treatment? Or an exercise to help me fix my LES? Is there anybody out there who can give some advice?????

Guardian angel (Linda Sue)
I finally made it home one week in the hospital. I will blog exactly what he did
He won't be happy til I'm ten days out, but what he found you all need to know
And not once did he ever say this was my fault. I'm now the Jr bionic woman.
I'm very pleased again with all my prayers and they were finally answered..
My quality of life will change dramatic. Love to all my family and friends.

Hello Sunshine-I hope that you get the relief you need soon. You say that you are happy with all of the doctors that are involved-having to wait to April or May for appts seems horrible. When I contemplated having my surgery, I didn't find a surgeon in my specific area that I trusted........I was able to find a team of surgeons who specialize in this type of surgery and actually collect data to publish results of their work. Luckily, they were about
two hours away, so the whole process meant 5 roundtrips and we stayed at a hotel near the hospital for three days after surgery. Wishing the best for you.

Hello! I've just read this entire thread and I can sympathize with each of you. I had my first Nissen and hiatal hernia repair in 2010. It lasted for only 8 months. I had revision of that Nissen hh repair in 2011 and suffered major complications spending almost three months in the hospital. I had revision # 2 in 2012 by a different surgeon. No complications but never any real relief either. I also suffer from asthma, COPD and several other issues but those two are always affected by that stupid hiatal hernia! I found out the end of last year that the hiatal hernia had increased to the size of a grapefruit and that it was obvious that the Nissen and previous repairs of the hiatal hernia were ineffective. I saw three surgeons before finding one that I trusted and on January 20 I had a subtotal gastrectomy with a roux en y reconstruction. What that means is that they completely removed 90% of my stomach. My last egd showed severe erosive gastritis as well as precancerous polyps. On January 22 I was still in the hospital and taken back for emergency surgery due to bowels migrating into chest. The surgeon was unable to repair my hiatal hernia. The hope was that this was just a "fluke" due to my bowels being dilated from surgery. They inserted NG tube and pushed everything down and that stayed in for 3 days. During that time NOTHING by mouth, not even an ice chip. I came home and have done fairly well. I have lost 45 pounds. The end of March I was admitted to local hospital with pneumonia. While there I developed chest pain and began vomiting. A cat scan was done, my surgeon was called and I was ambulanced to KC where my surgeon is located. This was on 04/01. I was taken immediately into surgery as I had a bowel obstruction from scar tissue as well as my 10% stomach that I have left back up in my chest cavity. Thankfully no NG tube this time. Home now....pneumonia is clear but asthma and COPD are still flaring. Saw dr again today and all as well as I are of the belief that until they can find a way to repair the hiatal hernia I won't be able to breathe and am just waiting for the next emergency. So I'm being referred to Mayo Clinic. This is such a difficult journey. I'm 43 years old, married and have 3 kids, ages 15, 17 and 19. Mostly I just hate how unfair this is to them. I have only worked three weeks since January. Luckily I have a great employer and will be starting short term disability for the time being. I have been through a lot as I see most of you have. If my experience can help any of you I'd be happy to answer any questions. For now I'm here again.....waiting.

Hi, I been to hell not sure if I will make it. My partial gastrectomy in 2016 by BMI Utah Dr. Cottam did a experimental trial did a bait and switch. Forged my consent form fraud to Molina healthcare.
He did a trial non consent everything goes, single anastomoses vsg duodenal switch.
He is a rogue surgeon has three partners dr Richards, dr Medlin, dr belnap.
Sadly it’s taken me six years to find out what he did, drs in Utah and salt lake regional hospital stand behind this evil persons. During this horrific time I’m now disabled still looking for relief.
Please avoid BMI Utah at all cost. Sadly I tried to inform people on reviews to call dopl in Utah.
I pray to god the devil will get this individual’s for all the pain and suffering they have caused.
I’ve tried to report him but know one listens. Please help get the word out.
Go on bariatricfacts.org on forum put Dr. Cottam name, Dianne cox spelled out this travesty.
She has an informant from Dr. Cottam office. On the post trial from 2014 to ? There are four other states. Dr Mitch Roslin from New York he and Dr. Cottam are switching procedure and standard the surgery. Wrong they manipulated bowels do wrong procedure and falsified everything.
Bariatric surgeons in Utah beware they are playing god and doing wrong thing.
Salt lake regional hospital rewarded surgeons for unethical behavior.
Thanks for listening I hope I see justice. Lost hope in medical community in Utah.
