Hi all,
I've just seen this post from a couple of months before my Nissen and hope my experience can help you make a decision. I have had silent GERD (i.e. no symptoms), which I believe is generally the same this as LPR, for several years and it went into overdrive last fall.
I had surgery a month ago (May 26) and a very glad I did. I really encourage you to go for it, as long a you have a surgeon you have researched and trust. My experience as of Day 17 is at
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=45&m=3132073&p=5and I can honestly say that two weeks later, on Day 32 since the surgery, I am feeling terrific. I haven't needed any reflux meds and feel optimistic that reflux may well be a thing of the past for me. Please don't let that Mayo doctor discourage you without getting another opinion (as you probably have by this time).
Good luck!
