Hi there,
Wanted to say hello. Been reading this forum for a while now and really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences.

I'm a very active 30 yo with no real health problems except this one. I've had gerd (heartburn, regurg, sorethroat, cough, chest pain) for about 3 years, although meds (pip, h2 blockers, etc) now no longer really helping.

Going down the path for possible Linx. What a weird and crazy disease this is! Hoping everything will work out for me. Focusing on some of the positive outcomes here, especially NoDoubtLove---her story has lifted my spirits when things have gotten rough.

There are some great people on here - who give a lot of support and help. One of the best forums on the net!
If you decide to go down the lynx route, just as with a fundoplication, chose your surgeon wisely! I had a 270 wrap done on March 12th this year - and have been symptom free since. I believe the lynx can be easily removed if it needs to be - where as I wanted a more 'permanent' fix, as well as having a hiatal hernia repair done too.

Thanks for your reply Sweetie! I'm really glad to hear you've done so well with your 270 degree wrap. That's wonderful news!

I'm lucky enough to live in a big city close to a very experienced Linx and foregut surgeon. Wish it hadn't come to the point of even having to consider surgery, but the meds just aren't cutting it anymore and my quality of life is suffering.

Anyways, I've done the barium esophagogram and the EGD with Bravo capsule. I will be meeting my doc again next week to review the results. I know I don't have a hernia (so that's good news I suppose) but now just waiting to find out if the reflux is bad enough for the doc to recommend surgery.

I got to the same point as you are at now - the meds didn't work, my lifestyle compromised, and they only way forward was surgery. In your case linx sounds like a good plan! Hope you get the results you need to get sorted out.

Well, the doc said he thinks I have an 85-90% chance of improvement with Linx, so I'm going for it. Info submitted to insurance and now we wait to see if they will approve....

I'm not getting too excited as I hear it's kind of a roll of the dice if they will approve right off the bat or not.

Well, as I knew deep down they would, my insurance denied Linx. I'm moving forward with self pay. Surgery will be within the next 2-3 weeks. I will start a recovery journal after surgery. Wish me luck!

I would make sure you are tested for delayed gastric emptying before going through with surgery. Delayed gastric emptying is where food stays in your stomach too long. This will cause GERD/LPR and in worse cases vomiting. PPI's will not work for delayed gastric emptying and can make the problem worse. There is a test for delayed gastric emptying where you eat food and x-rays are taken to see how long it takes the food to empty out of the stomach.
