First of all I have had GERD and Hiatial hernia for many many years. Been on protonix 40MG for 10 years. Got off about 2 years ago because it was making me loony in the head, but recently returned to using it. Tried to get off again and had a flare up from hell so I got back on and then went to 20MG where I am today. I am achy in my ribs and armpits and pecs. My groin aches a little to and I have this pressure in my head, not an ache but feels like a pressure in my sinuses. I am light headed and if I get down and get up too quick I get a little faint and feel like I am going to pass out but it passes quickly. My GERD isn't too bad.
So am I whacky? Can all these be GERD or Protonix related. I am anxious to hear from any other who feel or have felt this way! I am getting a little concerned something else may be at issue! Please let me hear your thoughts.

I dont think your loony!! I have had similar things going on over the last 5 or 6 years . I have been on h2 blockers and ppis for over 20 years , im only 43 years old and generly healthy . I have taken nexuim for about 12 years 40mg up until about 3 months ago i started taking the over the counter 20mg dose. I want to get off these meds but know that will never happen because weak les and motility . Like you i have had all sorts of muscle pain , neck shoulders , lower back , calves and feet! There are days that i am miserable in fact most days here lately!! I have went as far as seeing a surgeon who tells me that im a perfect candidate for a toupet nissen , i just cant go forward with surgery until i feel i have no other choice. I plan to wean my way down to an h2 blocker and a reflux diet and see how that goes for awhile . When i do take the h2 blockers i dont have the muscle pain as bad but the reflux is a bit worse . Im not sure there is a right answer for this nasty disease!!

I too knew I had an HH for years and was on 80 mg Nexium for quite a while thinking that was the best I could expect when, about ten months ago I was hit with this general feeling of overwhelming nausea; something was absolutely not right. I felt sick to my stomach and just totally achey everywhere and spent several days in bed with a heating pad chasing my aches from one side to another. After seeing a GI I found out my HH was much more out of control than I imagined. I've now had Toupet surgery to correct my HH and reposition my stomach and feel better than I have in MANY years.
I'm not a medical person and don't suppose to know what is causing your problems but you surely must be able to feel better than you do now. I was very fearful of surgery, thinking I might only be trading one set of problems for another; so fearful that I almost cancelled my surgery. Fortunately, I did not and at three weeks post op I can sayvit WAC aside choice to go ahead with the surgery. I have not felt so well in many years. I only wish I had known enough to have the Toupet many years ago. I understand your fears but encourage you to push ahead.

I feel like the surgery probably is my best option. My fear also is trading one set of problems for another and also that the toupet wont last long enough to justify having it. My surgeon tells me it will last forever if i eat 6 or 8 small meals daily! My concern is im 43 and dont want to have this surgery 2 or 3 more times in my life. But i also fear cancer and effects of meds over the years!! But the positive post on here are a huge help to hear ! Thanks for giving us on the fencers hope!!!
