Dee dee,
It seems that doctors vary quite a bit when it comes to post surgery diet restrictions. Mine told me to keep to a liquid diet for the first two weeks. He defined liquid as "anything that would pass through a straw - but DON'T use a straw because you'll swallow too much air". So I mainly stuck to broth and creamy soups, jello, protein shakes and the most filling staples of cream of wheat and thinned mashed potatoes. I sometimes felt hungry so made the potatoes a little thicker. After the second week, he told me I could eat soft foods and to try whatever I could chew very, very well. I tried Mac n cheese and soft pastas and kept meals very small. I kept trying slightly more solid foods always chewing well. It's been about 6 weeks now and I eat just about everything I used to. Sandwiches are hard to chew enough and sometimes go down very slowly so I tend to avoid bread.
If you don't have an appointment with your doctor lined up, call and ask for more diet guidance. In the meantime, be very conservative and try to stay with softer foods. Good luck to you.
