Hello jd,
Sorry you're in so much distress! But I'm glad you found us. Many of us here, myself included, have been in your shoes. To answer your questions directly,
1. Yes. That was exactly my situation.
2. I didn't. But domperidone is usually a drug given to kickstart digestion, is an anti-nausea medication as well. But this doesn't control acid production.
At a basic level, if your LES isn't closing, that's a problem that can only be resolved by a fundoplication procedure. Not knowing your medical history, there could be other reasons your doctors feel you aren't a good candidate for surgery. Mine didn't close at all, and I had no issues swallowing. My gastroenterologist, on review of the barium swallow, endoscopy and manometry overwhelmingly concluded that the only solution for me was a fundoplication and referred me to a thoracic surgeon, who repeated the EGD, reviewed the manometry and barium swallow and ordered a 24hr pH study then concluded the same. I was in surgery within a month of the testing being completed.
If I were you, I'd find another gastroenterologist for a second opinion, and consult with a thoracic surgeon that is a specialist with advanced laparoscopic procedures of the esophagus.
Be well and take care,
