So on Friday I met my new Gastro and what a world of difference that was! First off she sat with me for an hour so I could inform her of everything that was going on. She made sure I understood that she was there to help me feel better and that she truly does care about my recovery. I brought my records from my previous doctor and she was not impressed. First off non of my diagnosises are noted anywhere and I may have to redo my endoscope because the report was so poorly written with no detail at all.

I had another Barium test done in a facility the same day and I will say it was a horrible experience. The person doing the test wasn't the nicest and I have a hard enough time swallowing so I didn't really appreciate him yelling at me to drink the thick liquid barium faster while I was laying down.

I go for a mamatory test in a couple weeks and I am nervous about that. Anyone have it done?

My new doc is exploring motility disorders especially since I have autoimmune issues. She also wants me to go to a rheumatologist in a top Manhattan hospital for a second opinion. I am hoping I am getting on the road to recovery. I just had to cancel my annual vacation because I don't want to travel while feeling like crap.

That is awesome! It sounds like you have found a doctor you can trust...that's the first step! Sorry your experience with the swallow was not great..we had a similar experience during my son's pH test, and it really made it much more anxiety provoking than it was to begin with.Good luck with your further testing...I know it stinks to have to repeat the endo, but I honestly would'nt trust any report from the last dr anyway...you will probably be much better off if she looks herself to see what is going on. The manometry isn't pleasant, but I wouldn't fear it. If at anytime you feel like you would need them to stop, just tell them. They put a numbing gel inside your nose and pass a thin tube through your nose and down your throat to measure your swallowing function.

Hi Lawchick. Good news for you. As Sharon stated, the manometry is not too bad. The tubes are really thin and typically goes down easy. They they watch a screed and then tell you to swallow a drink of water. They do this many times for about 10 to 15 minutes. Fairly simple. Good luck.

Thank you for the update Lawchick. I'm glad you found a doctor that sat down with you and listened to you. That's the kind of doctor that you want. I'm glad the doctor is taking these steps to find out the root cause of your issues. Please keep us informed of your progress.

Thanks everybody. Looks like the barium didn't show much so getting esophagus motility test done soon.

The motility test is fine, lots of people seem to say its unpleasent but honestly I didn't mind it, it doesn't last long. Mind you I had an endoscopy without sedation so compared to that anything is fine. Except the 24hr pH test, I found that was horrific.
