Has anyone else had this with their GERD, every so often, maybe once or twice a week, I get this pain. It feels like its coming from the upper half of my intestines, so sort of just below my belly button, and it feels like there is glass passing through.

The pain can get intense to the point that it makes me light headed and feel like I might pass out. 9 times out of 10 it will result in a BM. Whenever this happens the lump sensation in my throat also occurs (there are other times it happens as well though).

I have kept a pretty thorough food diary and I can't nail down any particular thing that causes it except that it always occurs within an hour of eating. As I said, unlike the rest of my symptoms which are near constant, this only happens once or twice a week.

Yes I've had this. It basically in my case comes from me eating too much fibre and then eating something that gives me immediate diarrhea. So for example, for me I used to take a fibre supplement and large amounts of it before I knew what I was doing, then I would eat some carrots or something and it would stimulate diarrhea. Then as everything tried to make its way through my system it would feel like someone was pulling a cheese grater through my bowels.

At one point I remember walking home and it was so painful that I actually had to stop and just and sit on the sidewalk curled in a ball until it passed. Luckily I was close to home and managed to get on the toilet.

I would take a look at your diet and the amount of fibre in it. Maybe try a lower fibre diet and the fibre you do get, ge from veggies and not bran or wholegrains. Also be careful of resistant starch, this is a big problem for me and gives me as many problems as fibre does. Also a low FODMAP IBS diet may help.

Thats interesting you say that, I saw my GP today and he actually said that it sounds like diverticulitus, which means I need more fibre in my diet rather than less, and I am inclined to think that is logical because I have had problems with constipation a lot since my gallbladder surgery

It could be, best thing to do is to experiment with your diet. Try low and high fibre and see which improves your symptoms but do it gradually as you don't want to be in too much pain.
