Wind pain in upper stomach

Had hiatul hernia op 15months ago no problems until now. I am taking codeine and morphine for pain and because of the constipation they cause I have been taking a lot of pysillium husk. I read somewhere that it can cause wind?

How can I get rid of the constipation and wind?

"Wind" can be from fermenting fiber, but it shouldn't be in your stomach. The transverse loop of the large intestine is right under the stomach and can feel exactly like a stomach problem. Maybe your GI tract isn't moving fast enough. That can happen on opioids.

Real gas in the stomach is more probably due to swallowing a lot of air. You probably heard about that if you had a fundoplication along with the hernia repair. Look up "gassy foods."

Personally, I take wheat dextrin. It has no taste and doesn't ferment. It helps a little with constipation, but I also need Miralax (PEG or polyethylene glycol). It has very little taste. I put it in my coffee.

I find artificial fibre supplements give me awful splenic flexure syndrome, which can feel like pain in the stomach but is actually in the colon high up under the left rib. I would stop taking the husks and instead try topical magnesium oil. This really helped me go to the toilet and because its topical it doesn't give you any nasty GI side effects. I started at 6 sprays per night and would always go to the toilet in the morning.

You may want to try a low FODMAP diet to alleviate gas in the colon.

Where abouts is the pain located? Is it quite central or to the sides?

psyllium an artificial fibre supplement?
The pain is dead centre where the ribs part at the bottom. I need something that is safe to take daily. I have a wheat allergy. I already take 300mg magnesium daily would I be able to use the oil as well or instead?

Ah OK that does sound like your stomach then. Have you tried gas x or activated charcoal to try and absorb some of the gas?

Might be worth a trial of stopping the husks and see if it resolves the pain

What are you taking the codeine for? Is it possible to try an alternative pain medication that isn't so constipating? Some antidepressants are used for some types of pain.
