My surgeon said 2-3 weeks to be able to return to work as a best case scenario for a desk job. I would say no way would I have been able to go back to work fulltime (40 hours a week) after week 2 because week 2 was the absolute worst week of the recovery. Had I not had issues with bile malabsorption which gave me chronic diarrhoea instead of the constipation most people get post-op, I think that I would have been ok to go back to work at the end of week 3, by then the pain was pretty minimal. Keep in mind though that you could have unexpected complications like that and when you are on a limited diet anyway having to deal with other problems like diarrhoea can sap any energy you might have. Take things as slowly as you can because every time I overdid it, it was game over for the day and I was less than useless. Also if you have LPR symptoms, they can take longer to disappear (GERD stuff goes pretty much instantly) because the tissue needs to heal so that can slow things down. All in all I wouldn't have been fit to do fulltime days in the office until 2 months, but I could have done part time, or full time from home from about week 5-6.
