Diverticular disease years after Nissen fundoplication.

Hello I am a new member but a veteran of Nissen fundoplication. I had my procedure in 2000. It was successful with the exception of not having the ability to belch. I have not tried to correct this because I have been gerd free after all of these years and I did not want to tamper with success. Of course I've had gas and bloating but it's never been a serious issue until now. This year I was diagnosed with diverticular disease and the excess pressure is very uncomfortable. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same problems and I am looking for suggestions of treatment. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum.

The surgery probably has nothing to do with the diverticulitis, IMO as a patient, not a doctor.

As a patient with years of diverticulitis problems and surgeries, I sympathesize. It's not fun.

All I can suggest is avoiding gassy foods and drinks, trying not to swallow air, as in using straws. Maybe there are some more tips in the archives. See the search box at the top of the page.

I did have a side effect of diverticuli 3 years after this procedure. The surgery DID help my GERD however it also puts a large amount of pressure on your intestines and colon. I believe it is releated because I had a scope before my surgery. It is pretty self evident it can cause diverticular disease due to the inability to burp.
