Hey everyone,

Was diagnosed with GERD 8 months ago. Also, found out I had Barretts/Ineffective Motility. Never had heartburn, always silent reflux symptoms.

Just did 24 hr PH test while on 2X daily Aciphex. It said my Demeester score was 2.2, which seems normal. But I had 136 reflux episodes during that time.

I think that number or reflux episodes sounds really high. I am going for consultation to get Toupet Fundoplication. Do my test results qualify?

Your DeMester score was low because you were on PPI because DeMester score mesaure just acid refluxes. 136 reflux episodes is high. Those reflux episodes were non acid or just weak acid because you are on drugs. So you probably suffer from GERD a might be candidate to surgery. However think twice before have one because of possibility of severe side effects. Only if you can not tolerate PPI or if they are not effective. Fundoplication may help to treat barrets but also may not....so it is a hard choice....

Many people have had great success with healing Barretts on medication and controlling reflux/silent reflux symptoms. Was your original endoscopy 8 months ago, and have you had a repeat endoscopy done recently? We are not medical professionals, so I can't tell you whether you would be a good candidate for surgery, or not. What does your doctor say? I can tell you from my experience that that the surgery is major and it is a rough recovery. I didn't feel better until about 6 months after and felt like my old self about a year post-surgery. I had absolutely no energy, and was off of work for 2 months. My advice is not to jump into surgery too soon, and explore your other options.
