So, I wanted to phrase this very specifically as I don't want to come off like I just found some miracle cure or something. More so, maybe someone would understand the underlying reason. So i've suffered from gerd for about a year and a half now, I have not taken a PPI in about.. 2 months, however do struggle with acid still and have to pop tums, gaviscon, etc at many points to keep it under control.
about 3 days ago, I was having a bit of an attack and decided I was going to pop some tums, but before I did that, my fiancee had ask if I wanted a sip of her diet root beer (A&W brand) since I don't drink full soda's myself anymore due to this condition. I took a sip and felt some relief, for the last few days i've had a root beer near me and just sip it sometimes when the symptoms seem to want to be jerks, and it seems to often keep it at bay. I still take a special kind of Gaviscon before bed though, so i'm not exactly doing great, just a bit better.
I guess my question is why would this relieve my symptoms, and I guess is there a better more healthy way to utilize that benefit since I don't want to drink soda all the time?
