Hello everyone,
This is my first time on the forums. I am a 24-year-old male with a history of acid reflux. I've had one endoscopy two years ago, which came back negative for anything. I've been able to manage my condition largely without medication, through lifestyle changes. Only for a few episodes I've needed a PPI, and they usually last for a couple months.
Recently I've experienced a strange sensation will swallowing. When I swallow, I get a very light sensation in my back as the food passes down. I say sensation because it isn't exactly painful, it's barely noticeable. It only happens every so often, but it is preventing my ability to eat in anyway. To be clear, the food passes down fine, it does not feel like it's being stuck. I've actually suffered dysphagia in the past, due to my reflux, so I know that this is not it. Also for some reason, anything to do with my esophagus I always feel in the back. So it is not surprising to me I feel the sensation in my back and not in my chest.
I'm curious about some potential reasons for this. Of course if it doesn't go away in a couple weeks I'll see my doctor. He will probably tell me to take the PPI's. Some things I've seen on the Internet that it could be include structure, tumor, and esophagitis (inflammation). Is it possible I irritated that area somehow it's just causing some discomfort? Basically, is it possible that this isn't a big deal and I'll just go away in a little while and not cause any permanent harm? Or should I rush for an endoscopy.
Because of my age, my doctor has usually been conservative with endoscopies. By that I mean he doesn't feel the need to send me for every little thing, especially because my condition is fairly well-controlled. I have severe health anxiety, so these things cause me a large bit of stress. Any advice is appreciated.
