Dear Everyone,
Here is my story in short. I'm now 29 years old, have been fighting GERD for 6 years. It all started with constant burping. I went to a doctor to do endoscopy 4 years ago and he prescribed me PPIs for my reflux. I didn't have esophagitis at the time. I have also NEVER HAD HEARTBURN before, including the time I went to see the doctor.
I really wish I have done my research on PPIs before I started taking them. After 2 weeks passed and I stopped taking Omeoprazole, I suddenly learned what heartburn is. I still didn't do my research, just kept on taking it. Then one day I read how terrible PPIs are for you and decided to stop. The pain was bad so I switched to Zantac as a seemingly better alternative. Then I had another endoscopy that showed esophagitis so I went back on Omeoprazole, minimal dose, once a day + Zantac in the morning.
Ever since I read more and more about what a terrible idea it is to take antacids and I decided to stop.
A week ago, I stopped. Following the theory that it's actually too little acid that causes all this, I started with apple cider vinegar at first but it didn't help much so added HCL with Pepsin during protein meals and it did help at first but not completely and I have heartburn every day. Today I broke down and took Zantac because I couldn't take it anymore and I feel very hopeless :(
On top of ACV and HCL, I have been taking: DGL, marshmallow root, slippery elm, aloe vera juice, flaxseed oil, coconut oil, beta caroten and mastic gum ( I hear they all help with healing the lining..) but nothing seems to actually help.
Has anyone managed to stop having heartburn eventually following this therapy? I need some hope.. I don't know what to do. Now that I took Zantac, I feel like I have erased the whole week of trying to wean off. I am also on a gluten-free diet, the heartburn diet, lift my head at night, don't drink coffee etc..
Please help..
