For 2 months I have had a sore throat, and coughing. When it started I went to the doctor. She said I had sinus infection. After many visits its been bronchitis, chronic bronchitis, my blood pressure medicine, viral pneumonia, COPD, asthma, chronic laryngitis from post nasal drip and allergies. I went back 2 days ago and she said.... post nasal drip from allergies OR GERD (heartburn). She put me on an antihistimine and prescription Zantac. She didnt know which one will work but 2 days later I finally got some of my voice back after not being able to talk for 2 months. I have had a terrible cough, and sore throat. Chest x ray revealed nothing abnormal. My throat seems very sensitive. If I eat something crunchy I just cough and cough until its all out. I have been on albuterol rescue inhaler, symbacort, and nebulizer treatments. None of them are making much of any difference at all. But 2 days later my voice is still a bit raspy but at least people can hear me now. I am thinking it is probably GERD as opposed to Allergies. And once you start taking heartburn medicine...how long does it take for your throat not to be so sensitive and sore? I have had many nights with severe heartburn. After trying tums, and other heartburn medicines I usually end up putting 2 tablespoons of baking soda in a glass of water. It works like in 5 minutes but it tastes really gross. I'm wondering if I let it go so long that it has caused damage to my esophogus. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem? Thanks in advance for any replies.
