I'm having surgery in a few weeks for GERD and hiatal hernia. I'm seriously concerned about this surgery. I do not have Barrett's (thank God). I have had GERD for almost 20 years and recently found out about the hiatal hernia. I regurgitate food just while I'm walking around, the pain in my chest feels like I'm having a heart attack (at least what I think one would feel like), I constantly burp, have nausea, etc. Can anyone tell me what to expect from this surgery (i.e., pain, time in hospital, the process after surgery, etc)?
