Newly DX with GERD

I went to my doctor today after feeling pretty horrid for a few days. My doctor thinks I have GERD and put me on a daily meditation Dexilant for it. I took my first dose today and he said it might take a couple of doses to take effect.

I don't really have a heartburn feeling. Just a heaviness in my chest when I wake up and vomiting. The occasional shortness of breath and a sharp pain across my chest. When I do throw up it's always just stomach acid.

Does this sound like GERD? Has anyone take this medication? Did it help? Any side effects I should prepare for?

I should also mention I have anxiety as well and this isn't helping it at all.

Hi Mrs. Worried. The fact that you are throwing up acid is a sign you have some issues going on. If this were me, yes I would take the medication to get that acid under control before things get too out of hand. The last thing you want is more issues with your gut that could have been prevented.

Is there a reason you do not trust your dr & are second guessing his opinion? If you do not believe what your dr is telling you, perhaps you need a new dr.

I took the medication and it's helped a lot. I really do trust my doctor, but for some reason I always get super anxious starting a new med. and the fact that I never had the classic 'burn' of heartburn made me question it a little but I'm glad I trusted him.
