Hi All,
Since experiencing a success with my Linx, I've avoided these forums. I didn't want to think about it anymore.
I had suffered from GERD for 6-7 years before the op. It was hell. I hated every second of it, it ruined that portion of my life, the pain was so much worse than I could imagine.
The NHS dragged me through the dirt throughout my complaints, blaming it on my lifestyle and sighting the fact that I never looked all that bad for it. A change only came about when I obtained the funds to go private.
After I had the Linx operation I struggled for another year with new problems. It had healed over too tight culminating in something called oesophageal spasms. The pain was unimaginable, I thought I was having a heart attack but it was something to do with my oesophagus having to over work due to the linx healing over.
There were two options on the table at this point, have the linx stretched or have it out. My specialist had never done the stretching procedure before but was willing to give it a try. So we did, and it worked! I later had a second stretching procedure just to make sure, but according to my specialist surgeon, it was the first procedure that made the difference.
It's been about a year and a half since the last procedure and I wanted anyone on this forum that has read this far and is currently struggling with GERD - please don't give up. I've been through a really, really tough time and at times I've never felt so alone, but I kept going somehow and my life is now back to normal.
It's not a perfect fix in my case, but honestly, it's as close to one as I could have ever dreamed.
Good luck, stay strong and don't EVER give up.
