Hello,
I am 57 years old and have been diagnosed with POTS. I was diagnosed about two years ago. I was treated for anxiety and nothing was working. I ended up seeing an Electrophysiologist. He made the diagnosis. I was prescribed Fludorocortisone, drink lots of water and eat a lot of salt. I was doing OK until I had to have Nissen surgery. That took place on April 3rd. Since the surgery, my POTS elevated itself to a new level. I struggle every day. For those who don't know, nissen surgery (hiatal hernia) repairs a hole in the stomach and they wrap part of the stomach around the esophagus to help keep the esophagus working like it should.
I struggle with lightheadedness, all day. Ringing in my ears. If that is all I had it would be manageable. Nausea, terrible feeling in my head, fatigue and not being able to get a good night sleep are daily occurrences. I have found a study that uses low doses of Propranolol (10-20 mg) to help with pots. The data from the research concluded that low doses of Propranolol did help with the symptoms. High doses did not. I have just started with 10 mg twice a day. I will see how it goes. I do feel the worst in the morning. I am trying to stay active and fight this thing.
Here is what I am taking for all my aches and pains:
Fludorocortisone .1 mg every other day.
Propranolol 10 mg twice a day.
Vitaimin D
I am also doing Acupuncture. I have had three treatments.
Overall, I am not seeing a lot of improvement. But, I am optimistic. The treatments are just beginning.
The post surgery healing and side effects good be causing some of the anxiety that I have. Time will tell.
