Esophageal spasms

Over the past year I have had a few episodes of chest pain that I thought might be heart related so I went to the ER only to be told it was stress . The pain continued off and on usually once a month or so so I saw a cardiologist. I had a total cardio work up. Angiogram, EKG, nuclear stress test and all came back clear. My cardiologist said that I might have esophageal spasms. Now when I have a chest pain episode it gets worse with pain radiating to my jaw and head. Usually lasting intensely for 15 to 20 minutes but after effects last all day. I feel sore and can't swallow good. Ugh! I still get scared that I'm having a heart attack. Does anyone have any similar symptoms? Please help.

yes and it took almost one year after surgery, before they figured it out. gastro, ordered another barium swallow, and we watched in real time. meds can control this, as well as identifying triggers. for me, not drinking anything cold while eating. still get occasional chest pain, but knowing what it is, and that it will pass, takes the edge right off.
