My surgery was sept 1, or one week ago today. My HH measured 7cm at the EGD, but must have grown between then and the surgery. My stomach & diaphram had been pushed way up past the esophagus & the surgeon had to cut everything, shove it all back in place, & sew it down. He's noted to be The Best in my city at this surgery & has done thousands & told my husband after the surgery was over that this was the worst one that he's ever done & that I would have a lot of pain. Maybe if I hadn't waited 47 years to have the hernia repaired!
When I first woke up I immediately tried to burp & eureka! Success! Swallowing was also no problem even from the beginning. And I've had absolutely zero nausea. But the pain! 😩😤ðŸ˜. It's on my side, even with my navel. My bed is high, so I asked my hubby to run to the hospital supply store & get an arm for my mattress & a chair for my shower. I had him bring in an old walker from the garage & set it up backwards over the commode. My occupational therapist didn't like that but she didn't like anything. And I didn't like her.
I'm getting home health care & have a marvelous physical therapist who will come at least twice a week.
After three days on a liquid diet, I learned that I'm on a full liquid diet which includes soft foods like bananas & mashed potatoes & gravy. It's not bad. So far.
I spent five days in the hospital. Went into atrial fibrillation & had to be moved to the UCU step down floor till they got my heart rate down & blood pressure up. My heart rate was 170+ & bp down to 85/45.
It's good to be home but am not sleeping as well here as I did at the hospital. I've been reading this forum since I had my EGD & it has helped so much. But the extra pain in my side was unexpected, though the surgeon wasn't expecting a 2 1/2 hour surgery either. At one point after I got home, I passed out from the pain. Everything else has gone real well & im relieved that I was able to come home with home health care.
