Severe chest pain

I’m 1 month past my hiatal hernia nissen fundoplication surgery. The first month went well with no surprgises. Have been on a liquid diet.

Two days ago I ate 4 or 5 Fig Newtons, taking tiny bites and chewing for a long time. A few minutes later I experienced severe pain in my chest, right behind my Breast bone. The pain radiated up to my jaw. Of course I considered that it could be a heart attack, except that it was exactly like the pain I’ve had off and on over the years with my hiatal hernia and GERD. It Lasted for about 45 minutes.

I decided to wait another month before eating anything I had to chew. Back to my liquid diet.

It happened again last night and tonight. I’ve been drinking bottles of Organic Squeeze (a franchise that sells juiced vegetables). No friut, additives, nor preservatives. I’m also eating creamed soups and broth.

Nothing that I can think of has changed that could have caused this except for the fig newton. Tonight’s episode happened immediately after eating a small container of sugar-free vanilla pudding.

I’m at a loss. Have any of you experienced this?

Could this be esophageal spasms? The results of my motility test pre surgery were normal, so I doubt it, but this is all out of my field.

I’ve been reading about gas x so I guess I’ll pick up a bottle. When I have chest pain of any kind, I always think about my heart, so I appreciate the suggestion. My doctor’s office called today about something else & I asked whether or not these were spasms & was told yes they most likely are. It helps knowing what’s going on, especially when something is as severe as they are!
