Good morning,

Just finished the 24-hour ph study.  Not pleasant!!!  Does anyone know how the results work.  I noticed numerous times during the test that the ph was below 1.  Had a terrible time eating with it because it pulled the nasal tube everytime you swallow.  Took me 40 minutes to eat.  My physician is contemplating Nissen fundoplication or open hernia repair.  Any have either procedure???  How are you doing since???  I have been on Prevacid 30 mg for 3 years and just recently had to start taking 60 mg a day.  No relief at all and have a hernia to boot.  Any info or comments would be appreciated.

Hi,

I had a Laproscopic Nissen Fundoplication done at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota on 12/14/05 and I'm doing great!  I've lost about 18 lbs because you can't eat as much and had trouble for a couple of weeks with stuff getting stuck in my esophagus and having to bring it back up just to be more comfortable. 

I am able to burp but not vomit.  I got the dry heaves one night and it didn't last very long and I felt better.

Lots of people will scare the crap out of you but this surgery isn't as bad as people make it out to be.  I'm heartburn free and no more refluxing.

I am very glad I did this, it has improved my life 150%!!!

Hey, Heidi.  Nice to see a post from you and it's GREAT that your fundo continues to produce such good results.
