I had posted earlier about my atypical symptoms of shortness of breath due to a large hiatial hernia. After heart/lung issues were ruled out, this was the symptom that led me to go ahead with the surgery. I had surgery four weeks ago (hernia repair, partial stomach wrap, lengthening of esophagus). The surgery was done by an open incision.
I very much appreciated the response I received from one of the healing well members.
I still hope to hear from others for whom shortness of breath was the main issue with their hernia.
I feel I am recovering well in most ways but am concerned because last night I climbed a flight of stairs and felt quite breathless. Has anyone else had shortness of breath after this type of surgery? Most people seem to have the surgery due to severe heartburn, swallowing problems, etc. I would really appreciate hearing from someone who had the breathing issues and would especially appreciate hearing any positive outcomes. I get a bit apprehensive because the symptom is still here after the surgery. Thanks in advance for any encouragement anyone may offer.
