I've been having bad GERD for over 5 years, with the past year being the worst, by far. Long story short, I talked to my surgeon, who basically recommended a hiatal hernia fix, plus a Toupet. The Toupet recommendation was because I had a manometry 4 years ago that indicated that I have weak peristalsis. He ended up wanting me to do a couple more tests to confirm things (second manometry and barium swallow).
I ended up doing both tests (as hard as the manometry was). Ultimately, my gastroenterologist (not surgeon) is telling me that he's recommending to my surgeon that I just get the Dor fundo + HH fix. He said that my peristalsis is a little worse than it was at my last manometry; also, I don't have achalasia, as confirmed by both tests.
What's frustrating is that I don't have ANY dysphagia or swallowing problems!! I eat and drink just fine. I'm concerned that a Dor fundo. will not be effective enough for me, as I feel like my reflux is pretty bad. I've been waiting a long time for this surgery, and have done many, many tests. I was really counting on this surgery to help get me out of the rough spot that I'm in.
