Acid Rebound

I was wondering if anyone has gone through acid rebound and how long it lasted? Going through it right now and would appreciate some support. I was on protonix for 8 weeks and just went from 80 mg to 40 mg. have had stomach pains and heartburn all day..

Acid rebound is a big deal with PPIs. I was on protonix for 12 years and anytime I didn't take it I had awful pain and heartburn. Since I had a hiatal hernia and near constant acid reflux I relied on protonix for relief. If your LES function is not compromised in some way and your trying to taper down your use of protonix then I'd follow the advice of your doctor to do so. However, because of acid rebound you're likely to have some bad days.

I agree with Mark, talk to you doctor. Cutting the dosage in half, might be too much of a drop.

I've gone through acid rebound when I lowered my Pantoprazole from 40mg daily to alternating 20mg and 40mg. Some of the acid rebound resolved within a few days but some took about a month to settle.
