I had Nissen surgery with hernia repair two weeks ago and have been surprised how fast the recovery has been especially since I'm in my 70's. I had a cold when surgery was performed and it seemed to get worse after anesthesia. That bothered me as much as recovering from surgery. I went through pretty much the same thing others have in the first week or so but by day 11 I felt really good.
I'm still eating a soft diet and have only had one instance where something seemed to stick. I'm able to eat a normal amount and my total weight loss was only four pounds. Since I'm a normal weight, that's fine with me. I had silent reflux so I don't know if the surgery worked or not. I couldn't feel it before and I can't now. Since I had Barrett's with high grade dysplasia, I'm sure there will be many more endoscopies to monitor things. The dysplasia was already removed by mucosal resection. Two GI doctors have said my prognosis is excellent.
Here's hoping things continue going well.
