How long does damage take to heal?

I was diagnosed with LPR acid reflux about 5 years ago and have been taking 20mg one a day of omeprazole for years. A year ago in december I had a very stressful event and went to bed and woke up with a bad sore throat, which I thought was from a cold, but after it did not get better and I had another endoscopy found it was from acid reflux. My vocal cords and throat were red. I made some changes like using a wedge pillow and cutting out coffee and taking zantac at night and it eventually got better, but it took 1-2 months. I had a whole month I couldn't talk at all.

This year also in december I again had a stressful event and woke up with a bad sore throat and know its from acid relux. It has been 3 weeks and it still is very painful to eat and talk. How long does it take to heal back to normal? I wish there was some way to speed it up, as I am not sure if my meds have stopped working or it just takes a long time to heal.

Welcome to the forum.

Have you made an appointment with your gastroenterologist, or at least your primary doctor? At the least go to a doc in the box, where you probably won't see a doc and they miss strep a lot. ER is more expensive.

Your sore throat is not necessarily from acid reflux. Yes, the meds may not be working, but you could have an infection, strep, etc.

There's no way to speed healing, but the first step is to find the real cause of a sore throat. You don't want to find out you didn't treat strep and now have a heart problem.
