Hello all. I was writing here to see if there were any people who'd undergone a nissen fundoplication with subsequent balloon dilation(s)?
Pre surgery I had a small hiatal hernia, grade 2 esophagitus, Demeester score of 43, throat irritation and constant cough. I had a manometry prior to the surgery and my swallowing was normal. To fix this, I had a loose / floppy nissen fundoplication on March 7, 2016 (10 months or so ago).
Recovery seems to be fairly normal with ups and down along the way, but with a few side effects after the surgery. These are mainly difficulty swallowing (which eased over time), a feeling of globus at the wrap site that I did not have pre surgery, and increased mucus from my nasal passages (yellow tongue at the back). I have been scoped since the surgery and everything is in tact and the esophagitus is completely gone - so I know that I am not refluxing as I was prior to the surgery.
I think that what might be causing this is the wrap being a little tight. Although I had a floppy nissen, I can feel liquids especially get caught in my throat. I had a dilation done on November 17, and actually my globus sensation is significantly better these past 2 months, however I am still experiencing mucus, which seems to pool at the wrap site in my throat and make me cough still.
I think I am able to have further dilations to stretch the wrap a little more, but I wanted to know if there were others who had experienced successful resolution of dysphagia with the dilations? Did anyone else experience similar symptoms post nissen that resolved?
