While waiting for the LINX approval/rejection from the insurance, I’m gathering data and questions.
I’ve read in many posts that some people have developed reflux over the past few months or a few years. I’ve had it for about 40 years, on meds for 20+ years. I know I have a hiatal hernia that causing it.
I’m wondering how the hiatal hernia correction and pulling the stomach back into the abdominal cavity affects the working of the esophagus. I doubt there’s an extra 3-4 inches on esophagus in there to be pulled down. That means the esophagus is being stretched. A LOT! It makes sense to me, if you stretch a muscle that’s generates a wave to push the food down, that it won’t be working as well. If it isn’t working as well, that’s going to mean more dysphasia. Make sense??
So my question to the group is – If you had the LINX installed WITH a hiatal hernia repair, how was your recovery? Short and long term. I’m looking to see if the hernia repair complicates the already very long recovery. Maybe this would be better done as a poll?
