Hey everyone, new member.
So 1 month ago I got a bad case of food poisoning (I think it was from contaminated dried mulberries). I had simultaneous vomiting and diarrhea for 1 day and it took about 5 days for my stomach to get back to normal. Then for 7 days I was virtually normal. and eating normal foods, vegetables with indian spices, toast with peanut butter, almond milk etc.
At the end of the normal period, I wake up suddenly with nausea and stomach pain and I vomit again but this time not much and there is no diarrhea. Again my stomach is inflammed and this time it takes about 5 days to recover but I never fully recover, I stick to simple foods like vegetable soup, mashed potatoes and rice all without salt even.
As I was driving hope I quickly ate a banana in 30 seconds and later in the night had a massive flare of upset stomach and nausea. I start to improve again over another 5 days and I eat a little bit more food (a bowl each of mashed potatoes, veggie soup and rice) and then had a sense of fullness but it was ok. Later on I felt terrible, nauseated with terrible pain but luckily didn't vomit.
Since my last episode of not feeling well which was 5 days ago, I have been pretty stagnant in my recovery with possibly minimal gradual improvement. But it really sucks and its hard to eat anything really. I've lost about 20 lbs in a month!
Medical stuff:
I decided to do a scope which showed mild diffuse gastritis and grade A reflux esophagitis. Urea breath test before that was negative for H.pylori. Waiting for pathology results.
I started Pantoprazole 40 mg, 8 days ago and just stepped up to twice daily 2 days ago. Tums, gaviscon and pepto bismol don't really help me.
My plan:
Right now I plan on
- continuing with my PPI regimen for about 1 month at least
- eating ultra small meals 4-5 times a day if I can
- possibly add on natural remedies but im still researching them
Questions:
Do you think my food poisoning was a catalyst for my subsequent reflux and esophgatitis?
Do you think the problem here is I kept re-irritating my stomach by eating too much or too fast?
Any opinion on natural remedies like Mastic gum, DGL (licorice), slippery elm bark?
How long did it take for your esophgatitis and gastritis to heal?
Thanks.
