Hi all,
I'm so sorry if I'm just repeating old ground, but I had my Nissen's Fundoplication surgery just over 5 weeks ago. Sadly, the keyhole surgery had to be reverted to a laparotomy (open surgery) after a complication. I'm finally healing, but am still nursing a wound from my chest to belly button back to health!
ANYWAY - the real concern for me right now is that having tried some more challenging food, I'm experiencing heartburn symptoms. I've seen many threads here where people are good at calming these fears, but I definitely feel like it's more than just oesophageal pain. It appears that I'm more able to burp than some of you have experienced - especially after sitting or lying down; when I stand up, all the air finds a way to escape (funny/embarrassing depending on the company I'm with!). It's at this point, during a burp, that I experience the feeling of reflux, as if the release of the trapped air allows a little bit of acid to escape too. Or perhaps the burp causes friction and produces a pain in the lower oesophagus as it escapes? Possibly just wishful thinking there... What I do know is that whilst it's nowhere near as painful as it was pre-surgery, it's definitely uncomfortable and feels like it's getting more acute.
Following on from some of the stuff I've read, I'm going to take a few days easing off the more solid food again, but I'd really value any input from people who might have some advice or similar experience. I'm booked in to see my surgeon, but not for another two weeks and it's really hard not to obsess over it in the meantime!
Thanks in advance,
Ben
