Nissen Fundoplication surgery and inability to vomit

I am new here and am exploring GERD solutions, particularly LINX. However, I have a question about Nissen Fundoplication surgery. How can a person who has had the Nissen surgery vomit should they become ill with a virus, etc.? I cannot imagine the torment of needing to vomit and not being able to. How does one deal with that?

I'd exhaust all other options prior to considering the Nissen. Unfortunately, one shouldn't be able to vomit after the surgery. Dealing with it is difficult and I just wait it out. There's a term that goes with some of the nausea symptoms in this instance, but I don't recall what it was. I have dry heaved once or twice in the five years since.

I agree with John, the Nissen surgery should be a last resort. I carry anti-nausea medication with me at all times, and you would probably go to the hospital if you had a severe cause of nausea/dry heaving that you couldn't control. Honestly, it was never a big issue to me.
