New member here. I've been browsing and have found old posts quite helpful, so I decided to throw my particular case out there and see the general consensus that may or may not emerge.
Background: 38 year old male, college educated, non smoker or drinker. Ive had reflux problems since I was a teen, chewing tums and the like throughout the day back then. When I was 19 I had my first bout of SOB, trouble breathing in and not out, and local docs just assumed some asthma. I took several asthma meds but nothing helped, however the SOB slowly faded away and I thought it was gone for good. Looking back, I also now note that my breathing improved around the time I was first placed on Prilosec, though the never made the connection then, having no clue there might be a relationship between GI and SOB.
Over the years I had become an avid weightlifter and long distance runner, completing several ultra marathons, and would say I was very fit for my age. Fast forward to last January.
After completing a 20 mile training run, I came down with a light fever. Nothing serious, went to a local Np and got a steroid shot and antibiotics, and within a few days had developed serious SOB. Went to a local ER, and because of symptoms and family history they suspected cardiac problems. I was given every heart test, including a cath, which revelead myocardial bridging.
Long post...chapter two coming next!
