Hey ya'll. I had my manometry yesterday and then the nurse sent me home with the 24 hour pH and impedance test. Not too bad at all for having something down my nose, EXCEPT when I eat. The nurse said I'd be able to eat normally, but I am finding it too painful to eat much at all. When I swallow food, my esophagus seems to REALLY latch onto the probe along with the food and tug the probe pretty hard, which I feel in my nose. It went quickly from being mildly irritating to outright painful on my sinuses, where the tube keeps yanking madly. Pinching my nose shut when I swallow to stop some of the tugging up top helps a little, as does taking small bites of food, chewing thoroughly, and guzzling water to help wash it all down. I've never (to my awareness anyway) experienced swallowing problems, so this surprises me. I don't want to avoid eating because I'm supposed to intentionally eat trigger foods for the study. Anyone else deal with this when you got your pH study done? I'm having it done to evaluate whether surgery is an option to correct my hiatal hernia and GERD.
