Heartburn three years post Nussens. Questions!

I had the Nissen three years back. My symptoms are back (definitely no where near they used to be). I was in the hospital for something else and they noticed I had a large hiatal hernia. My hernia was fixed last surgery. Two questions:

1. Can I take PPIs post surgery? I will eventually get in to the doc but my insurance is bad right now.

2. I gained a significant amount of weight. Can this undo the Nissan?

You absolutely can take PPIs post surgery, and I would imagine that your weight gain could be a factor. You could try following the GERD-friendly diet again and see if you can pinpoint any trigger foods that may be a cause of your discomfort.

Thanks for the reply! I’m going to try the ppis again and look into a GERD diet.
