Stage 4 Gastric Cancer

My wife who is 69 was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric cancer Sept 2018. She has been receiving chem and has now begun the second line of chem which means a new type of chemo. The chemo is expected to be “non-curative” and only help for awhile. We tried to have a cell assay done but her cancer is diffuse and could not be biosopied. We did take fluid “acites” but unfortunately that did not contain enough cancer for the assay. She has had 11 chemo treatments.
What we could use is input on whether or not alternative treatments such as those offered on the west coast are worth pursuing i.e. Issels immunology, there are many others. I don’t want to drag her to the west coast(we are on the east coast) if she is going to be poked and prodded with little hope for something positive. Does anyone know if there is any efficacy with this stuff.
Any comments would be very much appreciated.

JGB, so very sorry to read about your wife's diagnosis. I read a couple of older abstracts at NIH about stage 4 gastric cancer. from what I read the cancer has spread to other organs. They treated for 2 years with chemo, radiation & immunology treatment. There was no follow-up on the outcome of this treatment.

I think taking her across the country would be difficult because of the length of time involved for treatment. What you may want to do look is googling any major university hospital close to you that is conducting trials for this. Some trials are offered free of charge if a person is admitted to the program or if payment is required it may not be too expensive. Many cancer patients get in the trials because their insurance will not cover certain procedures. Just a word of caution when looking for alternative care, the internet is full of of fraudulent claims on curing cancer. This is why I am suggesting looking at the major teaching hospitals.
