Hey guys,
just visiting back. I was here a long time ago when I am suffering from LPR Reflux on a scale of 9 out 10.
Just paying forward as the cure rate for LPR and reflux is generally low.
Fortunately, I was able to heal mine after 3 years.
I was also a patient of dr. Jamie Koufman of LPR fame. She a great doctor but very expensive. She has also the best equipment, monthly transnasal endoscopy scans. She technically proficient.
The other ENT doctors equipment IMO is too primitive to help you cure reflux. They also can’t read the data as well as Jamie.
However, Jamie is getting older, and out of the 30+ doctors I saw I think she was the best doctor for LPR. Of course she was 80 pct. effective on LPR, the rest might be 10-20% range..
She basically teaches you how to cure yourself.
basically the procedure, is you change your diet, then you take a monthly baseline throat scan to see your progress, if you're getting better your in the right direction. if your getting worse well you need to change something.
I come here to give you some insights I learned from this:
You need to address 3 things:
Health – you need to struggle to be generally health
Diet – 50-70% of the cure.
Meds – if you have neurotherapy in your throat. (I am not talking about protonix and other basic reflux medicine since its heavily discussed here )
Mental health
Health
You need to strengthen, your muscles in general. I find aerobic cycling greatly improved my reflux. I started up with upright fitness bike and moved toward a normal aggressive lean forward bike. I biked every day, when possible. I also found it helped with mental health..
Diet- LPR reflux, you should follow Jamie general book recommendation nothing acidic like yogurt. My diet differed because I pretty much went low carbs, carbs in condiments also can affect you.
A good read is Wheat Belly Diet book, I would say that’s 50% of the cure. DIET DIET.
Breaking the vicious cycle is another good book.
Meds- go to a doctor to get these. A psychiatrist is need for some. If you’re a nervous type who worries a lot this could be cause/ or factor in reflux as it was in my case. I went to psychiatrist take Cymbalta ( good for nerves, also treats the depression which disease often causes) 60 mg a day.
I believe Klonopin helped me the most dosage range .5 to 2mg) spread through day was useful if have you have nerve damage in the throat. How do you know you have nerve damage well you take Klonopin if you have immediate relief in 1 to 5 days as you increase dose then you do.
Nerve damage typically magnifies the pain of LPR.
Other notes, too much water can make you reflux, it was rare, but I discovered if I took too much water I would get an event. I basically drank water and followed it up with rice in the beginning to soak up the water and cashew later on as (carbs are not generally good for reflux).
Other meds that could be helpful. Lyrica. – Elavil and I forgot the other ones are older had more side effects for me.
I also took GI ProHealth - Scdophilus 10+ is a SCD Legal Probiotic and a SCD Legal Acidophilus. It is a GAPS legal probiotic and GAPS legal acidophilus.
Its acidophilus. however, I think GI prohealth was the best it comes in Ice and refrigerated.
Mental Health-
This is important, you need to be positive. Don’t be stressed out at work. Stress causes reflux. If you have realty stressful job, you might want to change it. I found cymbala as well as klonpin to be very helpful with this.
Back to diet since its pretty much the cure for reflux and LPR…
My typical diet which I follow today.
Water.
I take some bamboo silica once a day (this is base, so it really helps with flare ups) you can get this supplement on amazon. Make sure the source is bamboo not all silica is bio-avaiable.
1 Scdophilus 10+ ( or I eat yogurt, once your better you can pretty much eat acid foods again)
Phase I – if you really injuried.
Rice, olive oil fried chicken breast, with real salt.
Phas II - if your better
Cashew, calliflower cooked, spinach, fried chicken breast, or steaks, etc.
Basically, follow the diet in the wheat belly diet food. Basically, avoided bread and carbs.
Anyway, I still follow this diet when I have flare ups which is rare, from too much drinking.
But typically, I try to eat a clean diet.
Notes:
Just because you got fundo doesn’t mean you can go back to your crappy diet. It will just get worse again.
I am very careful with my diet. Listen to your body.
Take food logs.
Conclusions
I think the difficulty with reflux in general is the cure is DIET. Not a magic pill like proton pump inhibtotors, those things should only be taken for a year to allow your gut to heal.
Problem with diets, there hard for a lot of people. But people with severe reflux will be extra motivated to do the diet. Because the reflux issues will just lead to cancer and other problems if you don’t get it under control.
Disclaimer: I am not a doctor. Go see one for the medication mentioned above. Dr you need
Psychiatrist, Gastro (usually idiots), neurologist nerve meds– Dr norman latov in NYC is great.
ENT for LPR (however, their knowledge on LPR is pretty pathetic.)
This post is for entertainment only.
It took me 3 to 4 year for the cure.. because water (took 3 years to figure that out)was the cause of reflux. I also stopped coffee while trying to cure myself. probably another 1 or 2 years to find out i had nerve damage (jamie missed that one) Klonpin helped.
One note even though there are similarities in meds family.. meds in the same family can have dramatically different results. xanax helped like 50%. ... then i switched to klopin that was 100% relief.
notes:
i also tried gaviscon the good one from UK.. eh pretty useless and expensive. after 6 months or so of testing.
