I underwent
open paraesophegeal nissen fondoplication almost 3 weeks ago, Laparoscopic was not an option while on the table as it was discovered that my stomach had fused to my lungs and they needed to
open me up to continue. 6 hrs later I was in the recovery room. The first day was ice chips the next was more liquid and that evening I was starting on the soft diet, I drank and ate anything they brought me for the rest of my stay. (5 days total) since then I’ve been sticking to the soft diet but wondering why, swallowing has been the absolute least of my worries. Is this normal??? They said it went very well but I’m wondering if it could be this great. I also can burp when needed...can the fondoplication be too loose? I take my ppi’s for the next 3 months so time will tell about
the reflux. I’m just wondering what’s the catch having read so many stories with measured discomfort but I seem to be sailing though this. Your comments would be most welcome.

Chriso:
Take it one day at a time, you may be lucky and not have the difficulties that others had.
