I did this test years ago before having a fundoplication and it showed massive reflux. My question is, will it show reflux with a fundoplication if the symptoms are minor? I don't feel them unless I am lifting with my abdomen and also just before I goto bed (my meds trigger pain)

My question is how will I make sure this test gets my reflux episodes? I can't goto work and lift with the ph machine attached it may get caught up on something. I am trying to get a redo for the fundoplication but I need to show that I have significant reflux, they are more pushing me to use PPIs but I refuse because of the reactions my mom and I had in the years before.

Sorry for being such a bother on here, I have a brain injury so I have a fair share of mental issues aswell,in the past they did a fundoplication after the surgery and it showed nothing but I just know something is going on down there.Any suggestions and or advice would be greatly appreciated. I can't use PPIs again they scare the poop out of me.I already have dementia risk factors.

Terrified of getting barrets and cancer from it, I want the surgery redone so I wont need PPI therapy to prevent barrets. I hate that the only medication for GERD can cause such serious problems including polyps that can become cancerous. My mom had one removed and had nasty kidney damage. I feel so trapped all I can use is meds if they refuse to do a redo. I really want to have serious reflux so they can see that the surgery is not working at the 100% level it was before.

Sorry for my poor english,it's rough having a brain injury. I am basically concerned I wont be able to trigger the reflux I get while working lifting and such ( cause I cannot risk wearing the thing to work and pulling the tube out).

Keep the questions coming, that's what I'm here for and I don't mind! I think I mentioned before, I didn't try and do anything to try and "make sure my tests get the reflux episodes." If the reflux is definitely there (and you know it is), it will show up - don't stress over it. If you do have Barrett's the chances of it developing into cancer is actually only 0.5%. It can be successfully controlled and eradicated. I took PPIs (Protonix), for most of my adult life, with no side or after affects (many years). I finally underwent my Nissen procedure at 54 years old - that's a lot of PPIs, but it got me through and made it possible to function extremely well. I know it's hard, but try not to stress too much.

I just don't always feel it. I am use to the constant burn I had from before the fundoplication. Now I get it occasionally and constant when lifting heavy objects. I am just scared to not get a redo (as this is the final chance I have with this surgeon)

I am praying this ph test will qualify me for a redo. Scared they will just tell me to use PPIs. They never worked for me before the surgery (I tried like 6 different ones) Was on tecta the longest. I will be so anxious 24/7 if I had to take those meds again. I had a hernia repair so my valve is busted (do ppi's work for that too?) I just cant even think of being on them scares me after my mom had a golf ball size polyp removed from her stomach.

If they wont do a redo can I just live my life without PPI? Or will that technically increase my chances of baretts? I just cant take PPI it just doesn't work in my mind. Argh why do I have to be broken! Could H2 blockers work aswell? Those don't scare me.

Did you have a fundoplication before your ph test that showed acid?

Unfortunately, I don't have the answers that you need. The question would be, do you want to live your life without something that could potentially could help? I think a lot of your fear may stem from anxiety, and I get it. A lot of the healing process is mindset - I you are convinced that PPIs won't work for you, then they won't work. I think before you get so worked up about what is going to happen during your testing - you just need to be open minded and get all the facts from your Specialist regarding your test results before you start to trigger more anxiety.

So just basically go do the testing worry free and accept the answers it gives. I dono what to ask the specialist. A part of me thinks I should just do the test and go from there. You think that if there is reflux it will be caught no matter what I do. I just took my sleeping meds and the reflux is nuts again. It seems it gets triggered from being active or taking my sleeping meds.

So it will show reflux for sure when I am asleep, now I just have to figure out how to stay active in the daytime without going to work. Maybe lift weights or something. Should I ask my specialist that question? If the test will show reflux even if I am not active? I really dont want to bother him anymore, in theory I just have to keep moving for 5 hours and lift weights for 5 hours to stay active?

If reflux is present, it will show up regardless of whether you keep active or exercise since you believe that your NIssen has been compromised. Please don't concentrate and overthink how you can manipulate the results. Have the test, then talk to your specialist about his suggestions. Please don't overthink this. Do your sleeping meds list as a side effect GI upset?

I take mirtazapine,olanzapine and trazadone with melatonin. Never checked. BUT before I compromised the fundoplication there wasnt a burn issue. Now since a month back I have been getting a sore mouth and throat on my sleepers or lifting at work. (strongest acid is when I take my sleepers) Just anxious that things wont be considered bad enough for a surgery. Id rather take a a surgical risk before taking ppi therapy again sad Thanks for talking with me you are helping.
