Barret's esophagus

Hi all. I've recently been diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus after an EGD. My gastro wrote for omeprazole and said I would be on it my whole life. I have no symptoms of GERD aside from at times my stomach feels like it did 20+ years ago when I had an ulcer (H Pylori negative). I've also been a smoker for 30 years (please no judgement, I have enough of my own). So, I'm wondering if anyone has been dx with this without symptoms? Also if anyone smoked and the quit did they have any resolution of issues? Thank you.

I quit smoking after 40 years or so. I thought at first I had resolved all of my GERD issues, alas that was not to be. I went through the toupet fundo surgery six weeks ago. I am hoping within the next few wees to have all symptoms abated but as of right now I still suffer from Esophageal pain that feels like GERD but isn't (per my GI and Surgeon). I am on no medications right now because it just isn't that painful. I am sure the quitting smoking (I used Chantix and it was surprisingly easy) is helping in my recovery but unfortunately it was not a quick immediate fix all as I had thought at first.
